Ted Simroe began his rod-making career at The Leonard Rod Company in the mid to late 1960s. There, he learned Catskill rodbuilding and became the Master Rod Maker. The approximate decade that he led production at Leonard has become revered as the Simroe era of Leonard rods. Following his incumbency at Leonard, Simroe began designing and making carbon/boron blanks for Rodon. This stint lasted another ten years. Once he left Rodon in 1988, Ted Simroe began building his own rods under the TW Simroe-Maker label. Most of these were bamboo rods, very much redolent of his time spent at Leonard. This period is also when we believe our collection of custom composite Simroe rods were made.
The T.W. Simroe Maker S-4960 Fly Rod is a high-performance graphite rod crafted by master rod designer Ted Simroe, known for bringing a refined, traditional aesthetic to modern materials. Measuring 9'6" for a 10-weight line in a four-piece configuration, the S-4960 is built for demanding saltwater and big-game freshwater applications. With a fast, progressive action, it delivers the power and control needed to cast large flies, battle heavy winds, and handle strong species like tarpon, striped bass, or king salmon.
